PETROL prices are on the up again – but it seems there’s little use turning to the railways to ease the burden on your pocket.

That’s because rail fares are increasing too.

From tomorrow the increase in VAT to 20% means petrol and diesel will rise.

It could add around 3.5p to the cost of a litre of petrol and diesel.

Meanwhile rail fares are rising from between 5.8% to as much as 13% in some parts of the country.

And it has come at the worst time as people return to work having spent a few extra pounds over Christmas and New Year.

Now they face an extra outlay in commuting costs – where will it all end?
