I WAS disgusted to read of the ordeal endured by one of our local heroes, Jake Mangel Wurzel, faced with jail at a Preston court last week (Examiner February 9).

His crime ? To lose his cool after having been dogged by a group of local toerags for the previous two days, whilst trying to enjoy a quiet camping trip in south Cumbria.

Jake’s actions could have been those of any of us when faced with the constant grief that only a baying pack of young idiots can instil.

These louts unfortunately are regarded as cherubic innocents by the spineless authorities and anyone who dares to question their behaviour is condemned as a dangerous pariah.

Jake was forced to accept that “in behaving in that way he might have frightened those young lads”. Good grief, it almost defies comment .

I guess he should consider himself lucky to escape with a conditional discharge. He could have been kicked to death, which seems to be the modern way among these young angels.
