An abandoned village bank could become a coffee shop – creating new jobs in the process.

Kirklees Council has received an application to change the use of the mothballed HSBC branch in Denby Dale.

Applicants Mr and Mrs Crow hope to convert the Wakefield Road premises (pictured above) into a bustling community cafe.

The proposal would require a new main entrance and the conversion of an outbuilding to a bin storage area.

The first floor of the building will be converted into a two-bed flat for rent.

HSBC closed the village branch last summer just a few months after a dramatic daylight robbery attempt.

Three masked men armed with sledgehammers attempted to smash their way as staff filled a cash machine just before 10am on April 24.

Staff fled to a back room but the robbers failed to get in and left empty handed.
