IT IS a crime which will never be erased from Huddersfield history.

The worst case of mass murder ever in the town saw eight members of a loving family wiped out.

Little wonder, then, that the relatives of those who died and police have vowed to do all they can to ensure that everyone involved in such an horrific crime is brought to justice.

Shahid Mohammed has so far evaded that justice. He is a suspect in the Birkby firebomb murders but has been on the run for more than a decade.

Now it has been announced that detectives have arrested nine people who they suspect may have helped Mohammed evade the forces of law and order.

We will have to wait and see if the suspicions are correct but what is certain is that someone somewhere – and very probably in Huddersfield – knows where this man is.

He or she must know the information they hold could finally bring closure to a grieving family, and a supportive community.

He or she must do the decent thing and come forward now so that a dreadful chapter in Huddersfield’s past can be closed.
