PRIME CRIME TARGETSThe local priorities in your Neighbourhood are: Scissett: Helping to cut antisocial behaviour and check out reports of drug dealing on and around Wakefield Road, Clayton West and cutting antisocial behaviour on Church Lane, Holmfield Road and Holmfield.

BEATING THE BOGUS CALLERS The Neighbourhood Police Teams have produced a ‘Bogus Caller Pack’ – a bag filled with leaflets about how to protect yourself from bogus callers. There is information from Help the Aged, Age Concern, Kirklees Council, The Office of Fair Trading, Yorkshire Water, Eon and EDF Energy amongst others. There is also a fridge magnet with the NPT contact number at Kirkburton. Team 1 will be distributing these packs at the local groups for the people in the area, as well as door-to-door. If you would like a pack, or you know somebody who you think could benefit from one, contact us at Kirkburton station on 01484-436898 and we’ll get one out to you.

STOP THEFTS STONE COLD!Police have had several recent reports about thefts of stone in the area. Yorkshire stone slabs are being removed from garden walls which is causing walls to be unsafe, as well as unsightly. There are also the obvious cost implications about getting the walls repaired and the stone replaced. Please ensure your walls are secure, and the slabs and wall toppings are concreted down, to make it difficult for the stone to be removed. A local man has been arrested in connection with some of these thefts and inquiries are continuing. If you seen or hear anything suspicious, please ring 999.

KEEP IT SECRET! Thanks to the generous support of the Kirkburton and Denby Dale Area Committee, we now have a stock of ‘Secret Purses’ – these are little pouches with zipped compartments on a string. The idea is to wear it around your neck underneath your coat, and put your purse, bus pass, and other items in there. Then it’s out of sight and safe. Thankfully, purse thefts in our area are very rare, but it’s better to be safe than sorry! When we’ve given these out before, people have told us they are very useful for keeping passports in when on holiday. If you are over 60 and resident in the Kirkburton and Denby Dale area, then you can request a Secret Purse – and they’re not just for the ladies. Just get in touch with us on 01484-436898 and we’ll send you one out.

LIGHTEN UP! The dark nights are drawing in and autumn and winter are almost upon us. You can reduce the risk of becoming the victim of a burglary by: Leaving a light on inside the house; using a timer switch to turn inside lights on; use outside lighting. Using lighting in this way can act as a deterrent to burglars. Use energy saving lightbulbs to save cash and the environment.
