Nursery staff have celebrated their success at an awards presentation.

The event was the highlight of the annual training day and review, organised for the Portland Nurseries group.

Over 95 staff from the four nurseries in the group -based in Edgerton and Lindley - gathered at the Textile Centre of Excellence.

The aim was for them to reflect on the past year as well as enhance their childcare skills for the future.

The manager’s award for Child Carer of the Year was awarded to Amy Atkinson of Harlequin Nursery, Naomi Pearson of Holly Bank Nursery, Josephine Cadwell of Oakwood House Nursery & Forest School, Caroline Byrne of Portland House Nursery and Beth Auty of the Afterschool and Fun Club.

Rising Star was awarded to Assunta Miles at Portland House Nursery for excelling in her practice and showing potential for a bright future.

Prizes were also given to staff that had achieved new qualifications.

Super healthy deputy manager Natalie Clifford was given a £100 gift voucher for achieving four years without any absence.

The Portland Nurseries staff team also celebrated raising £3,500 for their sponsored charity WaterAid.

The international charity transforms lives by improving access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation.

The nurseries close twice a year to come together as a company to improve and develop the skills of staff.

The training days aim to help staff expand on all aspects of their child care skills and keep up to date with current legislation and practice.

Each training day takes on a different focus covering key areas highlighted through the development needs of the children.

Over the years areas looked at have included outdoor play, behaviour management and transitions.

This year’s event featured workshops on areas including literacy, Internet safety, and positive language and reflective practice.
