I HAVE several concerns regarding the implementation of the new disc parking scheme in Holmfirth.

Inadequate consideration has been given to the potential impact on Holmfirth, its visitors, businesses and traders.

Where do the people who currently park in the proposed parking zone areas during the day now park?

The displacement of these people could easily lead to the traditional car parking spaces (pay and display) being taken by them and taking up places usually used by visitors.

Currently there are several empty retail units (including the infamous Lodges building). How will the new scheme encourage new business to Holmfirth as they seek places to park their vehicles during the day?

People will see that if they move their car from one zone to another once every four hours (twice a day as a norm) they will be able to park in these zones. What does that say about reducing “carbon footprints”?

Should the council office by the library continue to have reserved places for its employees? Shouldn’t these be removed to allow more parking spaces for everyone?

The majority of residents need their parking space once they return from work (evenings/weekends).

By creating an all-day zone system in an area already struggling to cope with car parking appears not to answer the main issue/ And what plans does the council have to increase parking areas for visitors and business workers?

In the light of the above we would ask the council to reconsider the zone parking system and invest the monies into a more pro-active approach to rejuvenating Holmfirth and providing more parking spaces for everyone.
