A public meeting to discuss the future of Almondbury Village Library will take place on Saturday, September 20, between 10am and noon at the Wesley Centre, next to the library, on Stocks Walk, Almondbury.

The meeting has been organised by the three Liberal Democrat councillors for the ward: Clr Phil Scott, Clr James Blanchard and Clr Linda Wilkinson.

The trio are opposing the threat to Almondbury Library and to Lepton Library which is also in the ward.

The councillors have said they want to work with the local community to find a way to ensure there is a library in both villages in the future.

Cabinet Member for libraries, Labour councillor Graham Turner and Libraries Manager, Mrs C Stump, will be in attendance at the meeting on the 20th to explain the proposals and options for Almondbury Library as they stand from the council’s point of view.

The date for a second meeting concerning Lepton Library is yet to be announced.

Clr Phil Scott said: “The threat to both libraries in the ward is very real and as a community we need to meet to discuss what we want to do.

“The first meeting on September 20 focuses on Almondbury Library and it will give people from the village the chance to hear what the council has to say and to talk together about how we as a community want to respond.

“We need as many people as possible to attend and hope for a good turnout from locals who care about their library and want to help save it.

“Discussions with local residents and community groups about Lepton Library are already under way and I would anticipate a public meeting being called in the near future.”
