AN Almondbury school is celebrating its recent success in a national competition – Around The World In 80 Words held by the Young Writers’ Association.

King James’ students were asked to produce a creative piece of writing on the theme of the world around us in just 80 words.

In all, the school had 112 winners whose work will be published in an anthology out in May.

These students said of their experience: “I enjoyed the thrill of winning. It was fun writing about a mountaineer lost on a snowy slope” – Tommy Devitt Year 7.

“I liked the challenge of writing a story in only 80 words. I really had to think about it to get it right” – Rose Vatani, also of Year 7.
