Pupils switched roles when they became teachers for the day.

The students from Salendine Nook High School taught French to children from Spring Grove School.

They were taking part in the annual Language Leaders Scheme. This is where some Year 9s are chosen to represent the school and pass on their enthusiasm and interest in languages to primary school children.

Claire Barker, languages teacher at Salendine Nook High School, said: “The sessions are good fun and both the secondary and primary pupils get a lot of learning and enjoyment from the event. When we arrived at Spring Grove, our pupils were treated to a guided tour and were all made to feel very welcome.”

Children in Year 5 had three different French sessions. One was based on French numbers and included fun games and lots of counting. The pupils did a session on colours which involved much participation and movement. The final session was on body parts and finished with a rousing version of Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes in French.

All of the pupils were given a certificate for participating in the event.

Ms Barker said: “The language leaders were a real credit and I am very proud of them. They were enthusiastic and worked hard to deliver exciting and engaging lessons.

“This resulted in a rewarding and enjoyable afternoon for all involved. I’m already looking forwards to doing it again next year!”
