A NEW fire station is on the way to Calderdale – despite protests by residents.

Calderdale councillors last night backed the plans for the new emergency centre at Rastrick, after twice putting off a decision.

The new station is intended to replace the existing West Yorkshire Fire Service stations in Brighouse and Elland.

The proposed site is between Clough Lane and Slade Lane and local resident David Collins said: “This is a greenfield site, there are brownfield sites nearby the owner has said they are willing to make available should this application for development be refused.”
