RASTRICK High School’s swimming team is celebrating its success.

They were champions at the recent Calderdale Schools Championships 2012.

In what proved to be an exciting evening, six students represented the school and put in some determined swims in a number of individual and team events. The boys’ 100m freestyle race got them off to a flying start with Liam Clegg, Gianni Vienza and Matthew Bottomley all swimming exceptionally well.

Liam Clegg, who was in top form, was overall fastest boy in the competition, not only taking a gold medal but also the Davis Challenge Shield. The boys’ team race was the 150m freestyle relay, which they won in style, receiving a gold medal and the Rose Cup.

The girls’ team, represented by Amy Donovan, Amelia Clough and Eden Warburton had a fabulous evening.

Eden came away with a well deserved bronze medal in the 100m freestyle and the girls went on to receive a silver medal each in the 150m freestyle relay.

Marilyn Turner, Rastrick games officer said: “We are absolutely over the moon for all our swimmers and it was a pleasure to see talented young people together in one place showing what can be achieved through hard work and determination – and, just as important, having great fun”.
