TALENTED teens shone on stage in Rastrick High School’s Got Talent.

The annual showcase attracted a full house for the evening of entertainment.

Acts ranged from a pianist, dance, drummers, Irish dancing, rock bands and Rastrick’s version of the Spice Girls.

Judging the acts was Mike Heaton, drummer with band Embrace, and UK Beatboxing Champion and former student Patrick Hirst.

Year 11 student Taylor Mallinson, a vocalist, guitarist and songwriter, was overwhelmed to take first prize of £50 following the performance of her own song ‘Roses in My Memory’.

Taylor, who taught herself guitar over the last 18 months, said: “I was really shocked to win and had started clapping before I realised it was me they were calling out.

“My friend dared me to enter and, with a bit of encouragement from the staff, I decided to take part. It is a really good way of boosting our confidence and made for a great night out.”

Second prize went to Year 10 student Erika Mulkern who performed a moving and beautiful contemporary dance to Adele’s song Turning Tables.

Erika has been learning ballet, modern and tap since she was four years old.

Pianist Edwin Farrar, the youngest winner from Year 7, took third prize with his rendition of ‘Allegro in F’.

Organiser Deborah Adamson said: “The show is fast becoming one of the main events in the school calendar.”
