A student inspired by his late mother has raised more than £6,000 for a mental health charity.

Andrew Ball was just eight when his mother Roseann took her own life after living with bipolar.

As he grew older Andrew learned more about the condition and decided to do something to help those like Roseann and raise awareness among young people about it.

Now, after doing a skydive, organising a charity car wash, supermarket bag packs and a number of other fundraising events, Andy, 18, has raised £6,039.75.

Steve Evans, Rastrick High School and Sixth Form College headteacher, praised Andy’s efforts saying: “Andy is a superb ambassador for the school.

“His tireless efforts in raising money for Bipolar UK alongside studying diligently for his final examinations is testament to the simply outstanding young person he is. We are very, very proud of him.”

The money will go to Bipolar UK, a charity that supports individuals and their families with the much misunderstood and devastating condition of bipolar, their families and carers.”
