AN event to honour extraordinary retirees is being held in Lindley.
Today (May 8) the northern finalists of the first ever National Retirement Awards are gathering at the McCarthy & Stone development Sykes Court.
The awards were launched to honour individuals or groups who have done something worthy of recognition.
The special celebration at the Lidget Street development will involve the award nominees, their friends and family.
Winners from across five awards categories will then be selected to go forward to the national finals.
The overall winners will be decided by a judging panel including Dame Mary Peters, who had a career as an international athlete spanning two decades.
