SHOUTING at each other. Why do we do it?

Far from helping matters, it often leads to more aggravation.

And it demeans both the person doing the bawling and the one at the receiving end.

Anybody who saw the disgraceful treatment meted out to Shilpa Shetty on this year’s Celebrity Big Brother was a witness of what such conflict does.

Children and staff at Rawthorpe Junior School have decided to do something about it – and have introduced a shout-free environment, as the Examiner reports today.

They have already learned the valuable lesson that dignity and respect is the correct route to go rather than confrontation.

By all accounts, it has resulted in a better atmosphere.

Long may it live. Bullying of this nature should not be tolerated.

It can lead to low self-esteem and emotional turmoil not just in children but also in adults. Effective strategies like those in place at Rawthorpe Junior School must be applauded.
