A CONCERT is to be held in honour of a Golcar soldier killed in Afghanistan.

Bands and artists will perform at Huddersfield’s John Smith’s Stadium to raise funds for the Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Trust which supports Yorkshire Regiment troops.

It is being organised by Stacey Fitzgibbon whose cousin, Graham Shaw, of Golcar, was killed in Afghanistan in 2010.

Stacey is working with the Mayor of Kirklees, Clr David Ridgway, who is supporting the trust in his year as mayor.

Stacey, a dedicated regiment fundraiser, says the event is not only to remember the fallen heroes, but to support the injured troops returning home.

She and her family have already raised tens of thousands for the trust and they hope the gig will raise more funds.

Stacey, of Halifax, is supported by her parents, Jackie and Michael Dyson, and said: “We’re doing it not only in memory of Graham and others, but to help those who come home injured.

“I’ve met other families who have lost a family member and we all want to do what we can to help.

“We also want to support those who come back with injuries, they’re all heroes to us.”

The Rock the Regiment gig takes place on Saturday, April 13 from 7pm until midnight and features Jonjo Kerr, a solider who made it to the live finals of the X Factor, local bands Interchange and Red Star, as well as many more.

Tickets are £10 and can be bought by calling Jackie and Michael Dyson on 07774 964 841 or more details via the Facebook page ‘Rock the Regiment’.

Lance Cpl Graham Shaw, of Golcar, died while serving with the Yorkshire Regiment in the strife-torn Helmand Province, Afghanistan in 2010. He died the day after his 27th birthday.
