A ROTARY club is backing a boys’ school in their bid to learn mechanics.

The pupils of William Henry Smith School in Brighouse work on go-karts as part of a Time 4 Tools project.

And they’ve received £500 from the town’s Rotary Club, which is a big supporter of the school.

Sue Ackroyd, director ofstudent achievement, said:

“Members of the Rotary Club are quite involved with the school, they’ve given us £500 for the go-karts and also £60 for our prize-giving.

“We have a programme called Time 4 Tools and it allows the pupils to learn how to use tools, teaches them the basics of mechanics and also learning about the flag system of karting.

“They’ve not been racing them, but one of the school’s teachers does and they watch and contribute towards the race.

“We are really pleased with the Rotary Club’s support, they’re getting more and more involved with the school and we appreciate it.”

The school takes boys with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties and adapts its curriculum to meet their needs.
