AS part of the Holme Valley Contest Weekend Hepworth Cookson Homes Band gave a concert in Holmfirth Civic Hall in which they gave a varied selection of music ranging from the Overture Poet and Peasant to Wagner’s Procession to the Minster (writes an E&C music correspondent).
Conducted by the band’s associate musical director David Hurst they also included music by Condon, Horner and Ellington as well as others.
Jonathan Bates, who is the solo horn of the national youth band, also entertained with three solos accompanied by the band in what was a very good concert with a well chosen programme.
The reception the band and soloists received at the end said it all.
