I READ with interest the vision of Huddersfield by Prof Cedic Cullingford of Huddersfield Civic Society (Examiner, April 10), and it sounds quite an idyllic concept for the future. However, living in the more realistic present, the proposed new Tesco store comes to mind.

I do not always support Mr Sheerman’s views but I have just driven though Brighouse and was appalled when I passed the Tesco store.

What a monstrosity of aluminium and plate glass. Morrisons, Asda, Sainsbury’s and the recently built Lidl stores have at least outwardly constructed stone exteriors which are not offensive to the eye.

Shame on the powers that be at Brighouse for sanctioning such an eyesore.
