THERE are 14 of these 16ins-high ‘killer’ islands in Berry Brow wood.

I have not seen such lethal islands anywhere else – although I am aware that the same high kerbs have been used to protect the Civic Centre.

Are these islands – whether illuminated or not – illegal?

The reflector on the Honley boundary island on Woodhead Road (pictured) has been in its damaged state now for months. The reflectors on another island at Lockwood have been destroyed and the island has been left in this state even more months.

If Kirklees is going to place hazards in the middle of our roads then it has a duty to maintain the warnings.

Otherwise the council is in for some enormous claims for damages.
