PUPILS have weighed in to help families in crisis.

Youngsters at Scissett Middle School have collected hundreds of kilograms of tins and dried goods for Foodbank.

As part of the My Money Week in September they collected more than 127kg of food in two weeks and last month they set out to collect even more – taking the total to 156.4kg of food.

The whole process was managed by the Foodbank team, who are Year 8 pupils.

Scissett teacher Mrs Francis said: “We are very proud of their enterprise. They ran the whole process themselves.

“All I had to provide were the balances, a few calculators and the space for storage.”

Now the same team have plans for events next half term.

As more families fall into a financial crisis the shelves are constantly being emptied.
