St Joseph’s Sharks 56 Farnley 4

SHARKS turned out for their first match of the season against a Farnley team who had a perfect record and handed them their first defeat of the season with a near flawless display.

The forwards set the foundations for the runaway win, enabling the newly formed half back pairing of Samo and Nicholls to cause havoc in the Farnley defence with their slick handling skills.

Sukky, Mann, Leon James, Eastwood, Nee, Simpson, Smith and Cassidy were outstanding and Sharks were 26-4 up at half time.

It was much the same in the second half and Simms completed his hat trick. Simpson scored on his debut, then it was Gills turn as the Farnley defence folded. Gill and Simms were in excellent form.

Debut boys Mitchell and Hargreaves made up the back four and both had good games and Luke James, at full back for the first time, excelled, scoring two tries and kicking six goals.

Team captain Samo was never going to be outdone and picked up a couple of late tries.

Tries: Simms 3, James 2, Sukky 2, Samo 2, Simpson, Gill. Goals: James 6. MoM: The whole team.
