Shelley College footballers have beaten all before them to triumph in the County Cup.
The school’s year 11 team are the best in West Yorkshire after beating Morley’s Bruntcliffe in the final.
The road to the final saw them overcome Ryburn from Brighouse, St Wilfred’s and Honley high schools.
The County Cup final was played the home of Ossett Albion of the Northern Premier League
Bruntcliffe, who had beaten Holmfirth High in their semi-final, started the final with more confidence and created the better chances, but were unable to find the back of the net.
After a tough start the Shelley team grew in confidence and started to pass and move the ball better but the sides went into half-time drawing 0-0.
As the second half started Shelley began to dominate.
With 20 minutes to go left winger Alfie West picked up the ball, drifted past two defenders and slotted the ball into the back of net to put Shelley in front. Shelley should have scored more with West hitting the post and Capewell the crossbar.
But one goal proved to be enough as Shelley held on to win the county cup 1-0.
A well-deserved result for a hardworking and committed team of young men.
