KINDHEARTED students at Shelley College have raised cash in memory of a pupil’s late mother.
Lesley Wilson’s year 11 class raised the money in memory of nurse Joanne Philpott, whose son Henry goes to the school.
It was part of a series of fundraisers for his dad, John, who ran the London Marathon.
The Philpott family are hoping to raise £20,000 in Joanne’s name for Yorkshire Cancer Research.
Joanne, 50, died last September after a battle against cancer. The mum-of-four from Stocksmoor worked as a practice nurse at the Church Lane Surgery in Brighouse.
Pupils at Shelley College have rallied round the family and raised £400 towards the Philpott charity fund by collecting sponsorship for John’s marathon run.
Debbie Lumb, assistant head teacher at Shelley College, said:
“Particular thanks must go to Henry, Edward Vile and Arash Soltani for their sterling efforts.
“We were overwhelmed by the response and generosity of our year group.
“Congratulations also to John Philpott for a fantastic achievement.”
