Mirfield-born showbiz writer and broadcaster Neil Sean launched his latest book in his home town.

Neil, who now splits his time between London and New York, returned to Mirfield for a local launch of Live from the London Palladium.

The Palladium is renowned the world over as the home of stage entertainment and the famous old theatre has seen it all down the years.

Neil, also royal correspondent for US channel Fox News, has always been fascinated by the Palladium.

Over his years in showbusiness he has interviewed many big name stars who have graced the Palladium stage.

Finally he decided to bring all his stories together in a book.

Speaking at his launch at Mirfield Library, Neil said: “I’ve interviewed and chatted with a great many stars of stage and screen and this book brings all the backstage stories to life with plenty of glitz and glamour.”

Some of the stars featured in the book include Frankie Vaughan to Jason Donovan, Engelbert Humperdinck to Judy Garland and Barry Manilow to Barry Humphries.

Humphries – alias Dame Edna Everage – famously brought the Palladium house down at the Royal Variety Show in November 2013.

Neil writes: “Dame Edna slid confidently into the royal box, looked at Camilla and Prince Charles, checked the prince’s ticket and, in true Dame Edna fashion, smiled and announced: ‘It’s okay. They have found me a better seat!’”

Neil has dedicated the book to his late father Alan Scott, a comedian. His mother, Ann Montini, also a showbiz writer and performer, still lives in Mirfield. The book, priced £9.99, is available from Amazon and bookshops.
