YOUNGSTERS at a valley church put on a colourful display to celebrate the church Sunday school’s 196th anniversary.

Linthwaite Methodist Sunday School celebrated the big day with a special service called Colour.

Led by the Sunday School secretary Sue Howard, the theme was how important colour is in our lives.

The story of Joseph and his Coat of Many Colours was read by William Morrison and Rosie Bamforth and Ian Baxter read an excerpt from Martin Luther King’s I Have a Dream speech.

The children, with the help of the Sunday school teachers, enacted the story of the Rainbow People and sang two songs with Janie Bamforth dancing to Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

The choir sang How Great the Father’s Love as an anthem accompanied by organist Linda Nuttall. The service concluded with the whole congregation singing the church anthem Harvest Gladness known as The Drop, which is a long standing tradition.
