The artistic talents of Colne Valley residents are to be celebrated at a special charity exhibition in Slaithwaite.

The Gallery at Slaithwaite will host a two week event from August 22 to September 5 to showcase the work of members of Waves, a charity which works with young people and adults with learning difficulties.

Each painting sold will raise money for the organisation, which provides day care and teaches basic life skills to around 70 people living in the area.

Owner of the gallery, Wendy Beattie, team leader at Waves, Jayne Wright and Slaithwaite Emporium worker, Pat Gardner came up with the idea to get the community together.

Local graffiti artist, Number Zwei, will also hold a workshop on August 23 to demonstrate the work he does and help visitors to create their own work under his tuition.

Other activities are planned with a focus on children and families.

It is the latest initiative by the trio, who are also working together to offer work experience for Waves’ members.

Wendy said: “We are excited to be hosting this important local art exhibition for the members of Waves and hope the community will come along and enjoy the exhibition and by doing so will support the work of Waves and the future success of the members.”
