A SCHOOL hopes to become a wildlife haven now that their new Nature Cabin has been opened.
Slaithwaite CE Junior and Infant School welcomed Huddersfield Giant star Eorl Crabtree and Colne Valley MP Jason McCartney to the school to open the cabin.
The Two Gates school has recently been awarded Green Flag status and the cabin will be at the centre of the school’s green curriculum – it is surrounded by wildlife, with a small pond and planted area.
And the children are hoping to build bug houses and develop the gardens further.
Headteacher Elaine Bradley said: “We would like to thank all the people and children who have helped in any way to support this achievement.”
The cabin is the culmination of seven years’ fundraising, with proceeds from Christmas and summer fairs to lottery award and funding from Kirklees Council.
Huddersfield Giants star Eorl Crabtree opened the cabin along with MP Jason McCartney and Slaithwaite Brass Band.
