A SCHOOL was filled with the sound of music.

Hipperholme Grammar School’s three houses competed against each other for the annual Inter-house Music Competition.

Pupils from Broadley, Lister and Sunderland houses performed a range of instruments or used their own vocal skills to impress.

In Year 8, Madeleine Snowball gained first place and scored top points for Broadley House in both piano and woodwind categories. She also took third place for her vocal skills.

Outstanding vocal performances were also produced by Olivia Speechley and Emilia Cooper, pictured inset, who sings with the Bradford Cathedral Choir.

In Year 9, Robert Featherstone gained first place singing and also took second place with his cornet performance.

The winner of the Year 9 Brass category was Sarah Whaites.

Year 10 student Vicky Bryson stormed through winning first place for Broadley House in three categories: voice, string (violin) and piano.

For Year 11, Anna Russell performed twice, singing and playing the clarinet.

Sixth Form students and twins Oliver and Becky Firth competed against each other to take first and second places respectively in the voice category.

Winning performances in two categories also came from Stephanie Robinson on the flugelhorn and for singing, as well as from James Hopkins for fine performances on saxophone and piano.

The outright winners of each category will now be invited to participate in the School’s Young Musician of the Year competition which will be held in March.
