JUNIOR school children were given prizes for their success on the cross country circuit.

More than 400 children aged four to 11 from junior schools across the region descended on Hipperholme Grammar Junior School for the annual Interschools Cross Country Event.

All of the Hipperholme Junior pupils participated in the races and were delighted to welcome their peers from St Chad’s C of E Primary School, Hove Edge, Queenswood School, Queen Ethelburga’s Junior School , Beech House, Lee Mount , Holy Trinity and St Mary’s.

Reception classes competed in 250 metres events and continued up through the year groups with Year 6 children running the 1,000 metres.

Individual prizes were awarded to the Juniors achieving first, second and third place in each heat and there were team prizes for the first two teams in each event.

Amid much cheering, a special ‘Sportsmanship’ trophy was awarded to Lee Mount School for demonstrating the best sporting ethos throughout the event.

Hipperholme’s Reception Girls and Boys won their year prizes, with Evie Shaw coming first for HGS girls and Jayesh Bharath for HGS boys.

Henry Burton Wilson was top year four boy for HGS.
