A horse sanctuary which is desperate for funds may have to close.

Albert’s Horse Sanctuary in Cawthorne, close to the Kirklees and Barnsley border, currently cares for 44 horses.

But it has struggled to make ends meet for years as well as overcoming other obstacles.

Now organiser Mary Hepworth says £5,000 is needed to pay for hay bills. No more can be ordered until it is paid.

The sanctuary’s charity shop has moved from Holmfirth to Higham Common Road, Barugh Green, Barnsley.

The group is asking supporters to help.
