A PLAN has been submitted to Kirklees Council for student flats in Almondbury.

Developers want to demolish a bungalow on the site in Forest Road and construct a building capable of housing 24 students.

The site already has planning permission for four townhouses instead of the bungalow.

The new scheme would see the building divided into five interior “pods”, with each one sub-divided into either six or three bedrooms.

Each pod will have living and kitchen facilities and access to the gardens.

Each of the 24 bedrooms will be fitted with an en-suite shower room.

The agents behind the proposals, Northern Design Partnership who are working for Mark Anderson, claim the design is consistent with that approved for the town houses.

It occupies the same footprint and the building will be lower than the previous suggested structures.

Six parking places are suggested off Forest Road, which links Almondbury Bank with Bank End Lane.

A spokesman for the developers said: “The proposals are very much based on the previous approval in terms of massing and footprint.

“The proposed use is wholly appropriate for the site, being within the University of Huddersfield catchment area and providing generous and attractive accommodation for Huddersfield’s increasing student population.”

Consultation on the plans continues until September 23.
