A student has won a prize for a poem based on her life.

Molly Cliff, a year nine student at Hipperholme and Lightcliffe High School, won a writing prize in a competition organised by Celsian Education.

Entitled It’s Hard Sometimes, the poem was based on Molly’s life as a young carer for her mother.

The judging criteria was to find a poem that best reflected the quote ‘Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words’.

The team at Celsian said: “We were inundated with entries, one of which came from Molly Cliff who submitted her piece ‘It’s Hard Sometimes’ about her role as a young carer.

“We were particularly touched by the brave and profound words in Molly’s poem and believed that her entry, more than any other we received, displayed the feeling and emotion we were looking for in a winning poem.”

They visited the school and presented Molly with award and a framed copy of the poem.

Molly and her sister Lily also read the poem out.
