IT IS a shocking irony of modern life that the people who devote their time to saving others face the danger of imminent physical attack during the course of their work.

But, as our report today shows, assaults on medical staff throughout the area covered by Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust are on the rise.

While curbs on anti-social and yobbish behaviour across the region continue apace, it is clear that this issue is a problem that we must address as well.

Frontline staff have clearly had enough of such incidents which are increasingly becoming part of the job.

It is important that all incidents are vigorously pursued through the court systems.
