I ATTENDED the latest public meeting in New Mill on March 20, regarding bus service changes in the Holme Valley.

There was still much dissatisfaction with the 313 service, even though the H8/H9 service has been running for a while between the villages concerned.

As I live in the centre of Holmfirth I am happy with the frequency and reliability of First Bus, although I do understand that some outlying areas may not be happy.

I am aware that the Holme Valley is classed as a rural area. However, First Bus seem to believe that for us a “rural” bus is one which is the oldest in the fleet and/or the one whose engine noise most closely resembles that of a tractor!

Perhaps West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (Metro) will soon be consulting with local farmers with tractors to provide “authentic” rural transport in the Holme Valley!
