Upperthong Tigers 1

Lepton Highlanders 1

IT was back to league matters for the Tigers this week following their successful cup tie last week in Wakefield.

The early exchanges were concentrated in a packed Lepton half of the field, where most of the action was taking place. Lepton were fired up from the first whistle and didn’t allow the Tigers to settle on the ball. Their competitive and aggressive approach unsettled Upperthong who needed too much time on the ball and were repeatedly caught in possession.

Fortunately Lepton had little to offer in attack and Snaith was rarely troubled until a striker collected a pass on the left, just inside the Tigers half, beat three defenders and shot tamely towards goal. Somehow the ball deceived Snaith as it trickled between his legs and into the net.

This should have acted as a wake up call to the Tigers but their build up play lacked a real game plan.It was looking as though Upperthong would go into the break one nil down until Marshall fired home right on the stoke of half time.

The second half was no better than the first. Lepton continued to chase every lost cause with their twin central defenders coping admirably with everything the home side strikers could throw at them.

As the minutes ticked by Upperthong moved more men forward in an effort to find the winner but it was not to be as Lepton deservedly held on for a draw.

Tigers: Chris Snaith, Tom Collier, Blaine Rowan, Ben Leonard, Jack Sewell, Max Kaye, Max Berry, Ross Killock, Richard Marshall, William Wilson, Tom Halton, Oliver Tiplady.
