The opening of Topshop’s new Kingsgate store is adding lustre to the centre’s reputation for fashion retailing, it is claimed.

Kingsgate centre manager Jonathan Hardy said the new store – which opened yesterday with a DJ and a dress-down day for staff – had brought an extra buzz to the mall.

The retailer has moved from its long-established premises at New Street to occupy the unit left vacant by the closure of HMV earlier this year.

The new store provides an extra 1,000sq ft for its womenswear ranges as well as first-floor space for its Topman menswear department. A major refit of the 8,245 sq ft Kingsgate unit includes a shiny new frontage with LED lighting.

Scores of shoppers queued for the mid-morning opening.
