A choir hit all the right notes with the crowds as they performed in a festival organised to coincide with this year’s Yorkshire Grand Depart of the Tour de France cycle race.
Marsh Ladies Choir took to the stage at Holmfirth High School as part of the Yorkshire Festival.
This year’s event sees 100 days of art and culture taking place ahead of this weekend’s Tour de France.
Leeds-based band Hope and Social has staged a Tour of Infinite Possibility around the route of the Grand Depart.
Over two weekends, members travelled 200 miles and performed three gigs per day to create the biggest party possible.
They aimed to gather hundreds of new members as they headed to market squares and sports grounds, village greens and school fields.
When the tour arrived in Holmfirth, the Marsh Ladies joined in the fun.
Emma McDowell, the choir’s publicity officer, said: “We sang a number of great Hope and Social songs with the band and other local music groups.
“We were the only choir for the Holmfirth date — which was just one of 12 gigs at 12 towns across two weekends that the Tour of Infinite Possibility toured.
“It was a great afternoon and the sun shone — thankfully!
“The stage was powered by cyclists so it really was a great experience.”
Hope and Social created the theme tune for the festival, called The Big Wide.
It was played across the festival by brass bands, children’s choirs, and a bike orchestra.
All of the gigs were free and included events in Elland, Sheffield, Otley and Harrogate.
Marsh Ladies Choir was founded in 1955 and next year will celebrate its Diamond Jubilee.
There are currently 40 members and they enjoy a busy schedule of concerts and competitions both in Huddersfield and further afield.
