IT is the worst possible news as Huddersfield is today mourning the loss of three soldiers who have been killed out in Afghanistan.

Jake Hartley, Anthony Frampton and Danny Wilford all died after their Warrior Armoured Fighting Vehicle was caught in a massive explosion in Helmand.

The grim news follows Huddersfield’s loss of bomb disposal expert Capt Lisa Head and Yorkshire Regiment soldier Pte Graham Shaw.

The families of the three soldiers from the 3rd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment will be suffering terribly at the moment, but the town will be there to support them in the difficult days, weeks and months ahead.

It was the single worst enemy attack on British troops in the Afghan campaign and once more shows the brutality and insidious nature of the war out there. The enemy is often unseen and the attacks are always sudden, unexpected and deadly.

Sometimes it is hard to comprehend exactly what our troops are going through day in and day out until this kind of terrible tragedy happens which brings it starkly back home to where they were born and grew up.

Apart from their families there will be hundreds of people who knew these three brave young men and were proud to call them their friends.

The wave of sympathy for the families will be considerable and the town will show its true colours in the tough times ahead.
