A TRUST with a hospital in Lindley has made an Olympic-sized effort to keep staff healthy.
The Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust has been rewarded for its initiatives. The trust, which runs Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, organises a number of sporting activities. These include an annual five-a-side tournament during Men’s Health Week to promote health awareness among men. It also organises a women’s netball tournament and zumba staff classes. These efforts have seen it scoop a bronze accreditation from this year’s NHS Challenge.
The initiative aims to create a health and well-being legacy for the Health Service as part of the London 2012 Olympics. The trust’s chief executive Owen Williams, who played in the football tournament, will collect the award in London next month.
The players in the football tournaments are offered blood pressure testing. They are also given information and advice regarding weight management, smoking and safe drinking.
Each player receives a health information pack and is offered a personal appointment with an occupational health adviser and holistic massage sessions.
