Organisers are gearing up for a fundraising martial arts event in Birkby.

The Aikido event is being held on November 30 to mark the 30th anniversary of Foundation UK which supports vulnerable or socially excluded people to feel valued in their community.

Aikido is a Japanese martial art intended to train the body, the mind and the spirit and can be practiced by all ages.

Asoryu Aikido Club chairman Billy McAuley said: “For those considering taking training in a martial art then Aikido – which does not use strength, but expands mental alertness, develops self-confidence and improves levels of fitness – could be the way for you.”

All those who participate will be under the supervision of a qualified coach.

For youngsters attending the event there will be dodge ball with soft balls and other games on mats.

And for a donation to the funds, Dr Kirstie Eccles and her colleagues will be offering relaxation massage and acupuncture for adults.

There will also be refreshments available.

Foundation UK works with a diverse range of partner agencies and organisations with an aim to transform troubled lives.

It is one of the largest organisations in the north providing essential services to socially excluded groups.

The event will be held from 4 to 8pm at the Lighthouse Centre, 10 Linden Road, HD2 2TP.
