WELL done to the University of Huddersfield for thinking of its local community in such challenging times.

Experts at the university have come up with a 10-point masterplan to help local businesses survive the recession.

It’s not rocket science – even though research down there is highly complicated – but it is a commitment by the university to do all it can to help local people keep their jobs.

It will accelerate its huge building projects, do all it can to help new businesses flourish and buy from local firms wherever possible.

Do not underestimate the university’s spending power.

It is a major player in Huddersfield and its many thousands of students bring much-needed cash into the local economy.

Many stay afterwards and set up businesses in the town and several have gone on to spectacular success.

The university is there for us in the good times and now we are into the hard times its chiefs realise that and are doing all they can to help the town that sustains it.
