MUMS took inspiration from their youngsters to raise cash for Sport Relief.

The group of Huddersfield district mums took a break from gossiping at the school gates to pull on their walking boots and pound the pavements of Upper Denby.

But it wasn’t all hard work as the group planned their mile long walk carefully and made sure it included a crucial refuelling stop at a local ice cream parlour.

Sue Brimble, chairman of the Denby First School PTA, said: “Every year all the children do something for Sport Relief and this year we wanted to contribute as well.

“Some of the mums walk after the school drop off anyway, but this was the first time so many of us took part.

“It was like the march of the mums!”

Children at the school all went into class dressed in their sports kit and ran laps of the school playing field to clock up a mile each.

Eight-year-old Ben Kernahan, said: “I really like running and it’s good to help other people, this way I can do both.

“I bet I ran my mile quicker than my mum!”

£50.50 was raised for the charity.
