WITH all the gloom of post offices shutting across Kirklees it’s refreshing to have some good news to report for a change.

Shelley is to have a new outreach post office at its village hall three times a week.

Ok, it’s not the same as a permanent one, but it’s far better than so many other villages and, indeed, suburbs of Huddersfield now have.

Shelley folk have tried life without a post office since their old one shut down last Autumn – and clearly they have missed it terribly.

This is not a pilot post office by any means – there are now 500 outreach post offices countrywide so the Post Office does have experience setting them up and, one would hope, promoting them effectively so the whole community knows they are there.

People power has had a part to play in this – they have said they want and need this post office.

They now have it, but they have a vital role to play to keep it – and possibly even to extend the number of days and hours it opens.

There is only one way to be sure of that.

Use it!
