CHILDREN from Hillside Primary School in Newsome took part in the Giant Walking Bus scheme.

The aim was to help raise awareness of road safety in the streets around the school.

The annual event is run nationally by the Huddersfield charity BRAKE, with children all over the country setting off walking.

More than 80 children took part in the event at Hillside, accompanied by staff and local Pcsos Morgan Cockcroft and Paul Simpkins.

The event was co-ordinated by learning mentor Deborah Heywood, who said: “This is a very valuable experience for our children, which continues in the classrooms long after the event itself.”
