Kirklees Cabinet: £1.2m grants backed for free nursery places in Kirklees

What about us working parents? We work hard, pay a lot of tax and get nothing free - no help towards our extortionate childcare bills.

Yet parents that don’t work get free childcare for their two-year olds now?

If you don’t work you should be looking after your child surely?!

I would love to be a stay at home mummy but we have bills to pay which means I have to go to work, but thanks to the cost of childcare we are left with very little each month.

I am left looking at my payslips each month in despair at the amount of tax we pay but the very little return we see personally for that money.

BirkbyMummy

Birkbymummy is completely wrong. This scheme will help some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged children whose parents can't afford a nursery place. Children who go to a good pre-school are more ready for school, do better in lessons, achieve more and have better prospects as adults. Instead of becoming an expensive drain through benefit claims, the need for social workers etc, they are able to make a positive contribution to society.

It helps parents because it allows them to look for work or training so they can start to support their family.

It’s a case of spending money now so that money is saved in future.

This is a good scheme and it’s in everyone interests.

My wife works with many disadvantaged children and it is through no fault of their own making that they, the children, are in such a situation.

I sympathise with Birkbymummy and can see where she is coming from but there is simple solution to her problem, give up work and then you will have everything those without jobs will have.
