A PUB is about to change – but not in the way many valley people might expect.

Gary Smith has big plans after buying the White Hart in Holmfirth.

But the Slaithwaite businessman has scotched rumours that the Towngate venue is going to be converted into a chain pub.

“Everyone has been coming in saying it’s going to be a Wetherspoon’s,” said Gary.

“It’s the common consensus but I don’t know where it’s coming from.

“It isn’t correct. I’m going to turn it into the Brambles Bar and Cafe.”

Gary, 47, described his plan for the pub.

“There’s going to be a major overhaul. There will be no pool table or darts,” he said. I’m going to get in some nice new furniture and a big log-burning stove.

“Hopefully it will be a different type of local pub, like the Junction in Golcar.”

The pub is due to re-open in the middle of September.

Jonathan Holmes, the former landlord of the Swan and the Commercial in Slaithwaite, will be the new manager.
