YOUNG musicians were singled out for praise at Elland Silver Band’s 23rd Annual Slow Melody, Junior Duet and Quartet contest.

The adjudicator was Mr Stuart Fawcett.

Results are as follows:

11 years & under: 1 Joshua Barber - trombone, Elland Silver Youth; 2 Freya Mallinson - cornet, Wilsden; 3rd Alexander Smith – euphonium, Sellers Youth.

Youngest player (age 9): Celeste Sowerby, Elland Silver Beginners. Adjudicators award for the most promising player: Gregory Morris, Elland Silver Youth.

14 & Under, 1 Helen Clark – tenor horn, Rochdale Borough Youth; 2 Tommy Tynan – eb bass, Marsden Silver; 3 Alex Cowburn – eb bass, Dobcross Silver.

Best trombone: Hannah Stell, Skelmanthorpe 'B'. Best tenor Horn: Helen Clark, Rochdale Borough Youth.

Junior Duets: 1 Gerry Simpson and Anna Liddell, Elland Silver Youth.

16 & Under: 1 Alex Crisp – tenor horn, Clifton & Lightcliffe; 2 Bethan Plant – cornet, Elland Silver Youth; 3 Tommy Tynan – eb bass, Marden Silver. Best euphonium: Dulcie Fieldhouse, Elland Silver Youth.

Junior Quartets: 1 Lofthouse. Open section: 1 Jim Tew – eb bass, VBS Poynton; 2 Alex Crisp – tenor horn, Clifton & Lightcliffe; 3 Charlotte Ankers – flugel, Flixton.

Best flugel: Charlotte Ankers, Flixton. Best cornet: Dominic Wood, Elland Silver. Best bass: Jim Tew, VBS Poynton.
