A group of fighting fit over-50s had a hoot when they celebrated their 20th anniversary together.

Almost 50 members of the Colne Valley Owls (Over-50s Weekday Leisure Scheme) took part in an Easter bonnet parade and party to mark the occasion at the Colne Valley Leisure Centre in Slaithwaite, where they meet up to take part in sports three times a week.

The club has allowed them to try their hand at everything from indoor bowls and badminton to table tennis and pool whilst giving them the opportunity to meet new friends.

Wednesday group leader, Mavis Smith, said: “Coming to Owls keeps us young mentally and physically and is good value for money.

“We’ve had a great 20 years and hopefully many more to come.”

“It’s a great opportunity to get out of the house.”

Andrea Gill sports and events manager said: “The club is very important for the village and for the elderly generation and we’re proud to be able to offer the club, because not everywhere has something like this.
